A practical home base for USC in D.C.: class context, weather, Metro moves,
Georgetown, events, embassies, markets, student voices, food, and weekend trips.

Fall housing is listed at The Esquire on Fifth and Meridian Gallery Place.
Four students share a furnished 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartment.
USC lists the commute as about 30 minutes walking, 25 minutes by Metro, or 15 minutes by bike.
Cars are strongly discouraged; UPass covers Metro and Metrobus.
Health and support
USC says basic health services will be through George Washington University Student
Health at 800 21st Street NW. Keep prescriptions, insurance info, and emergency
contacts easy to find.
The dates below combine USC's published Fall 2026 FSDC academic calendar with the
pre-arrival and webinar checkpoints from the Student Guide materials.

here this week."
USC First Semester in D.C.
How the semester is built
The program is a fall semester at USC Capital Campus before transitioning to Los Angeles
in spring. It is small, cohort-based, and built around D.C. as the classroom.
Professor watch
Names are not posted yet
USC says expert professors lead small classes, discussions, guest speakers, and
site visits. I do not see Fall 2026 professor names published on the official
program page yet, so treat this as a watch item for the course preference form,
USC Schedule of Classes, and FSDC emails.
USC specifically tells students to review major requirements. The D.C. curriculum
is strong for GE, writing, citizenship, leadership, art, policy, and globalization,
but math/science-heavy majors should confirm spring sequencing with advising.
Four four-unit courses satisfy USC GE and writing requirements. The webinar notes
writing sections around 15 students, GESM seminars around 19, and history/art history
around 28.
Cohort shape
USC expects the Fall 2026 group to be roughly 120 students. Community ambassadors live
in the apartment buildings and help with the D.C. transition.
City shape
USC describes site visits to the Capitol, Library of Congress, embassies, cultural
institutions, monuments, and speakers from government, media, and academia.
Student shape
Alumni mentioned night monument walks, cafes, alumni dinners, football watch parties,
informal run/swim groups, and trying lots of USC clubs after arriving in L.A.
Student voices and campus media
What students are saying
Start with USC-published student quotes about the D.C. cohort, then use student-run
papers nearby to get a more everyday feel for arts, food, campus life, and D.C. habits.
Dupont, Georgetown, and getting around
Your local map
USC Capital Campus sits near Dupont Circle, Farragut North, and Farragut West. Georgetown
is close, but it does not have a Metrorail station, so buses, walking, bikes, and rideshare
matter.
Metro basics
Dupont Circle Red Line: about 5-7 minutes from campus via Q Street exit.
Farragut North Red Line: about 7 minutes.
Farragut West Blue/Orange/Silver: about 10 minutes.
The best student move is to keep a short list of reliable calendars, then check age,
price, transit, and return timing before committing.
French, Chinese, Spanish, Taiwan
Embassy and language circuit
Ateeya already has a bridge into French, Chinese, and Spanish. D.C. can turn that into
low-pressure events, films, museum programs, embassy open houses, and cultural calendars.

Weekend browse list
A practical mix of low-cost food browsing, outdoor plans, vintage/thrift stops, and
seasonal food festivals. Cards link out so she can check hours before leaving.
Student budget, no meal plan
Food, cafes, and easy defaults
USC notes there is no FSDC meal plan. Apartments have kitchens, and the area around campus
has grocery stores, cafes, fast-casual meals, and places to sit with a laptop.
Weekend range
New York by train
The clean path is Dupont or Gallery Place to Union Station, then Amtrak Northeast Regional
or Acela to Moynihan Train Hall at Penn Station.
